Sonoma Raceway kicks off big two weeks of NHRA racing

Today begins a two-week stretch of exciting NHRA racing at Sonoma Raceway.

Nearby Sonoma Raceway will host the NHRA Division 7 Drag Race presented by Korbel this weekend with the Toyota NHRA Nationals taking place next weekend.

This weekend’s event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.

Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The Pacific Division Top Sportsman Series, Top Dragster Series and the NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series will also run in conjunction with the event.

The weekend festivities will be highlighted Saturday night under the lights with “The Beast vs. The Warhawk” Jet Cars, five-second door slammers of the Xtreme Pro Mods West Series, and Boddie’s 1/8th Mile Racing Association “No Time” Classes.

This year’s event will be a new two Day format with a test and tune today at 9:30 a.m. Time trials and qualifying will start Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and eliminations for all classes will be on Sunday starting at 8:30 a.m.

Tickets for Sonoma Raceway are $5 on Friday, $20 on Saturday and $20 on Sunday. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
