Kyle Larson targets full-time sprint car career once NASCAR tenure comes to a close

Kyle Larson has made it to the most lucrative level of North American motorsports, but it’s not his ultimate goal.

Instead, the 25-year-old Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series star has dreams of competing full time in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car championship. The comments were made on the Dec. 18 episode of Open Red, the official World of Outlaws podcast.

For Larson, NASCAR is both a financial means to an end but also a platform to test himself against other world-class race car drivers.

“As everybody knows, there’s a lot of money in (NASCAR), and you know you can make a good living,” Larson told Open Red co-hosts Justin Fiedler and Ross Wece. “So yeah, I wanted to make it to NASCAR. So throughout the 2011 season, I had opportunities to go Indy Lights racing and stuff like that, but I just wasn’t into that.

“I grew up watching Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and you wanted to race with them.”
