Kyle Larson: ‘For me, the Chili Bowl is bigger than the Daytona 500’

Kyle Larson prefers dirt to asphalt and doesn’t hide it.

During a Wednesday night SiriusXM NASCAR Satellite Radio appearance, Larson spoke in reverence about the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals and knew his comments were going to earn some scorn. The Chip Ganassi Racing Monster Energy Cup Series contender is currently preparing for Saturday night’s Main Event after winning his Tuesday A-Main at the Tulsa Expo Center. Thus, he had time to promote the race.

“Everybody knows that I love dirt-track racing — for me, the Chili Bowl is bigger than the Daytona 500,” Larson said. “I know for some fans that may bum them out or make them think I have a bad attitude about NASCAR racing, but I love it, and there are some special dirt races I want to win and the Chili Bowl is one of them.”

He was initially asked where a Chili Bowl trophy would go in his trophy case, and he admitted it would receive key placement.
